BIG MOVE FOR JACKSON HOLE HISTORY MUSEUM

BIG MOVE FOR JACKSON HOLE HISTORY MUSEUM |
Are you curious about the history of Jackson Hole? Have you had a chance to visit the Jackson Hole History Museum or go on a historical walking tour of Jackson in the Summer? Jackson has a robust community that loves where they live and the people who live here. This was certainly evidenced in 2019 when the “Save the Block” campaign raised awareness, preserved the Block, and created an opportunity for the Museum to purchase a permanent location on the Block. Following the 2019 Specific Purpose Excise Tax vote, the History Museum was able to purchase a corner of the historic Van Vleck block in the fall of 2020, which is also home to well known Cafe Genevieve and Persphone Bakery. Since then, many partners including HGA, Prospect Studio, Gallagher & Associates, Aufderheide Construction Management, Berning Project Management, and the Eastern Shoshone and Shoshone-Bannock tribes have been making this dream a reality. The new space on the corner of East Broadway and South Willow will be the museum’s new permanent home featuring “two exhibition galleries, archive center, education classroom, historic cabins, outdoor programming space, and museum store.” As it has done in the past, the museum will continue to exhibit Jackson Hole’s rich history from “indigenous peoples to the era of exploration, to permanent settlement, tourism, and outdoor recreation.” Last Summer was my first time volunteering as a tour guide for the Museum's walking tour. I highly recommend the tour as an opportunity to learn more about Jackson Hole and historical sites near the Town Square. |
